Extreme Makeovers: Supermarket edition!

Ever driven down a street, and for miles and miles you don't see a single healthy place to eat? It's all fast-food and chinese takeout? Ever wanted a snack, but the local corner store only sells Little Debbie's, Starburst, Doritos and Diet Pepsi? If the answer is yes to any or all of these, you probably live in a "food desert". ”Food desert” is a term that describes geographic areas where mainstream grocery stores are either totally...

The fight for nutrition has a powerful new ally

Everybody in the free world knows what a First Lady is. The wife of the president. However, a lot of people don't realize quite how powerful she can be. Eleanor Roosevelt used her position to advance civil rights and women's rights. Edith Wilson stepped in when Woodrow had a stroke, and screened all legislation. Now it's Michelle Obama's turn. Their eggs come from cage free hens, and those are anti-biotic free as...

Why settle?

Recently, the ever so wonderous Andy B. linked me to a great site, WWW.GOOD.IS. While perusing this wonderful site full of mindblowing information I stumbled across an interesting little Flash tidbit. This interactive menu shows the USDA requirements for school lunches as well as two different meals that meet these requirements. One is a standard school lunch, the other is a healthier, and in my opinion tastier, alternative. I won't tell...

Adult Smoking on the rise --- First time in 15 years

I don't want to be a Denzel Downer, but, I have some bad news people. Adult smoking is on the rise. According to a study released yesterday by the CDC, Ciggarette Smoking in adults has once again risen above 20%. However, the rise was only a .8% difference, and according to Hammon MacNeill, a repreentitive ofthe CDC "The increase was so small, it could be just a blip".     Don't get too worried though,...
