Advocates in Massachusetts have created a toolkit for students who want to take action and create change in their schools and communities. Since that's what Catalyst is all about, we thought it would be a good idea to highlight this great resource. It's called "Students Taking Charge: How Healthy is Your School and WHat Can You DO About It?" and it's available for free online, just click here! It covers issues like nutrition, healthy eating, and physical activity, and it includes resources to involve your family and community, as well as tips for surveying your friends for input, and reaching out to the media to bring more attention to the issues you care about.
Students across the state are using this tool-kit to create change in their schools - and they are being recognized. Five high schools were just awarded $3,000 each in minigrants to keep up the good work in improving nutrition and physical activity policies in their schools.
Monument High School, South Boston; Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Boston; B.F. Brown Middle School, Fitchburg; Brockton High School, Brockton; and Doherty Memorial High School, Worcester, all received the awards. You can find out more here.
