Hilltop Schools in Somersworth, NH are part of the national "Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program" (FFVP). They received a $10,000 grant from the New Hampshire Department of Education to take part in the FFVP initiative. As a result they are able to serve students a new fresh fruit or veggie snack each day. These healthy snacks have included strawberries, watermelon, cucumber, baked potato snacks and more!
And they're even using local farms to source a lot of their fruits and veggies. Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace, in Dover, NH, helps to order the produce, and one of their staff members visits the school once a month to let students "taste test" fruits and veggies they may not have tried before.
