Reducing Youth Exposure to Tobacco Advertising

The Ramsey Tobacco Coalition (RTC) is working on reducing the youth exposure to tobacco influences by assessing and comparing, advertising( in-store signs, promotions, outdoor signs, branded store fixtures etc.), marketing practices (promotional and sales practices) designed to target youth.

We know that one of the best educators in our community are youth, teaching youth, and are excited about all the possibilities. The youth have done amazing things over the years, this project continues to give them an opportunity to shine and make a difference in the community.

You will play a key role in assessing and comparing point-of-sale adverting and marketing practices throughout Ramsey County. The information you gather will be used to do outreach to key leaders in the community and enact policies that will reduce tobacco advertising aimed toward youth.  

You will have an opportunity to:
1. Learn the basics of tobacco, advertising and marketing.
2. Go out into the community and locate examples of tobacco advertising targeted toward youth.
3. Share what you have learned about tobacco industry marketing and advertising with peers and other community outlets.

Time Frame
1-2 hours, once a week for 2-3 months

You will earn:
1.    Community Serves hours
2.    Influential employment experience
3.    A vast knowledge of the tobacco industry marketing and advertising

Most importantly you will play a key role in reducing the influence of tobacco advertising toward youth for generations to come.
